Bluffton Free Street Fair 2008
Tomorrow kicks off the 98th annual nearly week-long event known as the Bluffton Free Street Fair.
This morning I was wandering through the downtown tangle of trailers and event booths looking for any sign of activity when I came across Jim Martin, his brother and some friends setting up the booth for the Mouse Game.
Jim has been coming to the Bluffton Street Fair for more than four decades and was nice enough to pose for a quick photo for our Monday edition. You can also find his smiling face at the News-Banner website.
(Clockwise from top left) Vince Terry has been setting up the Ferris Wheel in downtown Bluffton for years.
"I guess this year will be my seventh year here," he said. "Gets better every year."
Down the street at the Dart/Balloon game, Nancy Witherspoon carefully coordinates the color pattern as she hangs balloons that will soon become nothing more than targets.
"The colors don't matter to some people," she said. "But it matters to me."
Jamie Husband and T.J. Adams were tasked with the delicate job of hanging precious Merry-Go-Round horses; Every giggle those gleaming ponies elicit will be thanks to their hard work.
Culinary and Needlework judging begins promptly at 9 a.m., Tuesday, in the Fine Arts & Crafts City Building. For a complete list of the weeks events check out Monday's edition of the News-Banner or visit News-Banner.com for a daily schedule.

Thanks for the preview of Street Fair. Many of the Class of 58 will be returning home to see our lst glimpse of Street Fair in 50 years, with our Regional Champs Celebration on Friday, and the Main Reunion Party on Sat. night in Vera Cruz. If you see any of us wandering around lost, stop us to say hello. We should be wearing name tags.

Jerry, thanks for keeping those of us originally from Bluffton updated on the Fair. Keep posting those pictures, they're great.
Nice copy but the original Bluffton Street Fair blog is at streetfair.blogspot.com
It wasn't very active yesterday but I suspect it's going to get very active in the next 24 hours.....
Now snap an "L" on your forehead and get ready to get punked. Welcome to MY town Jerry!!!!
There is suppose to have been a notice on both the fair program's and in the paper that states that pet's are not permitted on the midway. While i was at the fair tonight my mother and i were approached by a fair board member and this member informed us that dog's were not allowed on the midway we weren't even on the midway we were on one of the side street we were leaving anyway. I have two problems with this 1. if it was supposedly in the paper and on the fair programs then why aren't they saying anything to the carnival workers when they have their dog's at their booth's. my suggestion to the fair board is that if they do not want people to bring their dog's that's fine except for those that will be in the industrial parade or the wiener dog races then Next year have them put it into the paper and have them post it on the fair's web site.
